Concept and Design

In the planning of facilities, it is important to recognize the close relationship between design and construction. These processes can best be viewed as an integrated system. Broadly speaking, design is a process of creating the description of a new facility, usually represented by detailed plans and specifications; construction planning is a process of identifying activities and resources required to make the design a physical reality.

Hence, construction is the implementation of a design envisioned by architects and engineers. In both design and construction, numerous operational tasks must be performed with a variety of precedence and other relationships among the different tasks.

New Construction and Additions

A new construction project is pretty straightforward, but each process can be unique and come with its own set of challenges and hurdles depending on the size and complexity.

New construction is constructing an entirely new home or building from the ground up, and includes every type of material that goes into any such project. Below are the most basic of phases in a new construction project.

Restoration

Roof restoration is the process of using highly-engineered coating products to “restore” an existing roof deck to a like-new condition. It is used on PVC, TPO, EPDM, MOD-BIT, built-up, and even some SPF roofing systems.

A roof that typically would require a tear-off, but is in otherwise ‘restorable’ condition, might benefit from restoration.

This would mean no tear-off! No tear-off would mean virtually no mess, a lot less noise, and could save you thousands of dollars (depending on the size of the roof.)

Flooring

A floor of a building generally provides a wearing surface on top of a flat support structure. Its form and materials are chosen for architectural, structural, and cost reasons.

A ground-supported floor may be of almost any firm material, ranging from compacted soil to reinforced concrete.

An elevated floor spans between, and is supported by, beams, columns, or bearing walls. It is designed to be strong and stiff enough to support its design loading without excessive deflection.

Sheet Rock

Sheet Rock or Drywall is a panel made of gypsum plaster sandwiched between thick paper. It is used in the construction of interior walls and ceilings as a replacement for the traditional lath and plaster method.

Sheetrock is also used as a replacement for lath and plaster in the construction of interior ceilings and walls, though some Sheetrock is weatherproofed for exterior ceilings. Sheetrock are used with the same basic techniques. Our workers cut the panel to size, usually by scoring the paper and breaking the core manually.
